Regionalised trauma care aims to transport seriously injured trauma patients to an appropriate facility from the scene of injury. This ensures definitive care is provided as early as possible by an institution which is fully equipped and organised to manage seriously injured trauma patients — a Major Trauma Service. However, not all seriously injured patients go directly to a Major Trauma Service. Errors in prehospital triage, and patients who self present may preclude the need for interhospital transfer. To facilitate the interhospital transfer process and ensure trauma patients are adequately and safely "packaged" for transfer, the Trauma Department of Liverpool Hospital developed the "N.E.W.S. Checklist"©. |
