Popis: Vocal fold immobility is a frequently encountered problem in the practice of otolaryngology/head and neck surgery. In many cases, the etiology of this immobility is paralysis or paresis of one or both recurrent laryngeal nerves, although superior laryngeal nerve palsies, combined superior and recurrent laryngeal nerve paralyses, and/or fixation of the cricoarytenoid joint may also be incriminated. When presented with such a patient, the otolaryngologist must be prepared to evaluate the etiology and degree of involvement to be able to recommend and carry out the best management of the disease process.
