Spontaneous Passivation of Amorphous Bulk Ni-Cr-Mo-Ta-Nb-P Alloys in Concentrated HCl

Popis: Amorphous alloy rods of 1 mm diameter such as Ni-(1-3)at%Cr-(1-8)at%Mo-22at%Ta-14at%Nb-4at%P were prepared by copper-mold casting. Most of them were spontaneously passive and immune to corrosion in 6 and 12 M HCl. Their air-formed films were stable in these hydrochloric acids without significant change in the composition after immersion for 168 h. The films seemed to be composed of the outer triple oxyhydroxide of Cr3+, Ta5+ and Nb5+ and the inner MoO2.
