Popis: A new titrimetric method for the microdetermination of salicylic acid or certain derivatives is described. The proposed method is based on the fact that N -bromosuccinimide in the presence of dilute sulfuric acid and potassium bromide readily brominates salicylic acid and certain derivatives after hydrolysis. The mechanism of the reaction is discussed. The proposed method is simple, rapid, and sufficiently accurate to determine concentrations as low as 100 μg of salicylic acid or certain derivatives. The experimental error does not exceed ±2%. The method was also used for the determination of salicylic acid in such biological fluids as blood or urine with an error not exceeding ±10%.
