SummaryThe effect of vindesine used as a single agent over the period 1978–1980 has been evaluated in more than 200 patients with lung cancer. Clinical usefulness, defined as response rates of at least 20 %, has been obtained in small cell carcinoma and in adenocarcinoma. All patients with small cell carcinoma had received combination chemotherapy with 4–6 agents including vincristine prior to treatment with vindesine.For patients with squamous cell and large cell carcinoma the overall response rates are 10–15 %.Finally, preliminary results of vindesine when used in combination regimens are mentioned and discussed. General conclusions, however, concerning the role of vindesine in combination chemotherapy must await the results from randomized controlled trials. |
