Popis: Aortic aneurysms have a relatively high incidence in the general population, and the incidence increases with increasing age. The vast majority of aneurysms present asymptomatically, diagnosed incidentally or through regular screening, although some present emergently in cases of rupture. The location and extent of the aortic aneurysm, and associated disease, greatly affect surgical intervention and therefore anesthetic management. The anesthetic management of aortic aneurysm repair varies considerably depending on location and extent of the aneurysm. Open repair versus endovascular repair have important differences in anesthetic approach. Intimate knowledge of aortic cross clamping and unclamping physiologic responses, vasoactive medications, spinal cord perfusion, blood product administration, and intraprocedural communication are of utmost importance.
