Popis: ADHD symptoms and associated behaviors as well as the commonly co-occurring disorders can result in a variety of suboptimal outcomes for individuals with ADHD. Timely identification and intervention are warranted to increase the likelihood of positive outcomes for individuals with ADHD. Additionally, parent knowledge of ADHD is associated with protective factors such as decreased bullying and increased self-efficacy in symptom management. While research highlights the role of increased ADHD knowledge in decreasing ADHD stigma and increasing ADHD intervention favorability across samples and types, there has yet to be consensus on the interrelationship of these three factors. We propose an investigation of the mediating role of decreased stigma in the relation between increased ADHD knowledge and intervention favorability; specifically, it is hypothesized that increased ADHD knowledge leads to decreased stigma, which results in greater favorability toward ADHD interventions. The proposed study will investigate this relation in a sample of 200 parents of children who have ADHD. Using a path analysis, the three variables and potential covariates will be evaluated for evidence of mediation and statistical significance. Increased understanding of this relation is anticipated to improve researcher and trainer ability to encourage intervention use and create ADHD psychoeducational programming among youth who have ADHD.
