Luminescent properties of ytterbium ions in strontium haloborates

Popis:	The luminescence e properit4se of ytterbium ions in strongtium haloborates were studied under optical, x-ray and synchrotron excitation. The emission spectra of Sr 2(1-x )Yb 5 O 9 R consists of a blue and a UV band. The former is due to 4f 13 5d yields 4f 14 transtions on the Yb 2+ ions. The latter is tentatively assigned to charge transfer luminescence of Yb 3+ ions. The influence of the structural features of Sr 2 B 5 O 9 R and some preparative conditions on the luminescent behavior of Yb ions is discussed.
