This paper reviews the different active snubber topologies for boost converters. At high power levels, boost converters are required to operate at high switching frequencies in order to achieve higher power densities and increased efficiency. However, with increasing frequencies, the switching losses in the boost converter increase along with voltage and current stresses on the electronic devices. Moreover, the use of fast recovery diodes in boost converters for active input current shaping gives rise to reverse recovery losses and high EMI losses. Different proposed active snubber circuit schemes to alleviate these problems in a boost converter are reviewed and discussed. Finally, the features of these snubber circuits are analyzed and compared based on their advantages, possible improvements and number of components used. |
