The susceptibilities of the two magnetic systems in CuSO4.5H2O between 4.2°K and 0.3°K

Popis: Proton magnetic resonance and susceptibility measurements between 4.2°K and 0.2°K are carried out on a single crystal of CuSO4.5H2O. The existence of two magnetic systems is verified. The results indicate that the ions at the ( 1 2 , 1 2 , 0) positions remain paramagnetic down to 0.2°K, while those at (0, 0, 0) positions are antiferromagnetically coupled in linear chains at about 1.5°K, in partial agreement with the hypothesis of Miedema, Van Kempen, Haseda and Huiskamp. The susceptibility of the linear-chain system shows the behaviour as calculated by R. B. Griffiths.
