Popis: | An intensive chain termination has been observed in oxidizing ethylbenzene, caused by the system nitroxyl radical + hydrogen peroxide + acid. The nitroxyl radical and the acid act as inhibition catalysts, while H2O2 is consumed, by terminating two chains per molecule. A new mechanism has been proposed for the catalytic chain termination in the system studied. It includes protonation of >NO., its oxidation by the peroxyl radical to >NO+, reduction of the latter by H2O2 to >NOH, and the reaction of RO2. with >NOH with regeneration of >NO.. Kinetic estimations have been obtained for the individual stages of the complex inhibition process. |
