Popis: The cryptic self represents those poorly presented antigenic determinants that exist within the organism, against which the T cell repertoire has not been rendered tolerant. Occasional availability of certain cryptic determinants may have a detrimental consequence and cause autoimmunity. On the other hand, cryptic determinants may be able to be harnessed to perform worthwhile tasks such as raising anti-tumor responsiveness.
