Popis: Adolescence is a period of enhanced sensitivity to social influence, in which individuals start to contribute to society beyond their close family circle. In this study, we are interested in how prosocial preferences change over the teenage years, and how they are modulated by the influence of peers of different social status. We combine social network analysis with an incentivized donation game to investigate the effects of 1) peer status and 2) age on prosocial peer influence. We tested high school students from 13 classes in The Netherlands using a 2 wave study design. In wave 1, participants could choose whether to keep 1 euro for themselves or donate it to a Dutch charity. They repeated this choice for 30 different charities. In wave 2, they could see real choices of pre-selected classmates while making their donation decision again. Social sources were selected based on their status within the class, which was measured using the social network data collected in wave 1. This is study is a follow-up and expansion of a previously registered study (https://osf.io/nkqw7). While the general scope and research question remain similar, some of the hypothesis and the analyses choices have been refined after collecting and analysing pilot data for the original study. We hereby pre-register our main confirmatory (and some exploratory) analyses. At time of pre-registration, the data has been collected, but not inspected yet.
