Borwein critically inspects gothic aesthetics of global war fiction. She examines the relation between real/unreal paradigms, as a valence of realistic horrors and supernatural terrors, in chronicles of war that utilise global manifestations of gothic motifs and narrative devices. Spanning a range of constituent genre elements, Borwein analyses fictionalised aspects of warfare, proffers a global definition of War Gothic, inspects critical landscapes of war and text, and numerous thematic approaches that reinterpret awe, reverence, and medical and religious horror, with consideration of cultural specifics, like Baraka, the Yūrei, and Butoh. This analysis explores variations of resurgent aesthetics from American-Iraqi and Spanish to Australian-Japanese contexts, that which is axiomatic of modern trends in global gothic chronicles of war. |
