Popis: | Fever induced by lipopolysaccharide (LPS) causes release of endogenous pyrogens into circulation. Since cytokines have a capacity to induce fever, when injected peripherally or centrally, the view prevails that they act as endogenous pyrogens (8). It is presumed that cytokines acting directly or indirectly on the hypothalamus induce fever by elevating the thermoregulatory set point. |
