Popis: 1. Infrared spectroscopy has been used to study the mechanism of ion exchange with amorphous hafnium phosphate. A model of the structure of this ionite has been developed from the IR data. 2. Protons resulting from dissociation of water molecules coordinated with hafnium atoms are involved in the ion-exchange process. Exchange occurs on HPO42− groups at pH values in excess of 4.
