Application of Niobium Nitride Thin Films for Improvement of Performance Characteristics of Cryogenic Gyroscope

Popis: The application of superconducting niobium nitride thin film coating with in the production technology of a spherical rotor of cryogenic gyroscope is considered. The rotor, as a main constructive element, contains local contrast lines of niobium oxide films on the niobium base coating surface. Contrast lines are necessary for providing functionality of gyro’s read-out system. The proposed technology implies using niobium nitride thin films instead of oxide films along with the connection of stripes with each other for superconducting closed loops formation. Such approach allows eliminating the heat losses during rotor acceleration up to working speed. Theoretical calculations for proposed technological solution show the gyro’s readiness time reduction more than 100 times. The chemical thermodynamic approach is used for theoretical assessment of possibility of niobium nitride formation under used production conditions. Experimental results are in a good agreement with the theoretical calculations.
