The ambivalent relationship between music and the visual arts is easily visible in film music, yet neither film studies nor traditional musicology have paid attention to the analysis of works composed for the moving image. Today, with more than one hundred years of cinema behind us, a significant amount of film music has been generated. This article serves as an introduction to the justification, objectives, methodology and early results of the work done by a research team currently in the process of putting together a catalogue and inventory of Spanish film music from the last twenty years in order to facilitate the analysis and, perhaps, concert performance of this repertoire. |
