Popis:	Living systems are undoubtedly complicated. The complicated behaviors result from interactions between many different components. In this Colloquium colloidal systems are shown to exhibit lifelike behavior such as spontaneous assembly of complex structures, the ability to self-replicate, and the ability to perform complex and coordinated metaboliclike behavior. This behavior arises from programming of the interactions between components of the colloidal system.
