P., Dehra Dun-248 005 Manuscript received 28 April 1979, revised 16 December 1979, accepted 25 August 1980 Principal force-constants for tetrafluoro nitronium cation and tetra-oxo nitronium anion have been calculated using GVFF, UBFF, OVFF and L. J. potential functions. The eigen values, observed experimentally and computed on the basis of model potentials used, are in good agreement. Observed spectra of the ions were also tried as an inverse eigen value problem using various kinematical models. Mean amplitudes of vibration at T= 0°K to T= 1000°K have been reported for bonded and non-bonded distances and a comparative study of bond properties of N — F and N — O bonds has been presented.
