Multiconnected and regular mesh topologies address the accomplishment of high throughput and availability as required by prospective high-speed communication networks. Bidirectional Manhattan Street Network (BMSN) and Shuffle Net (SN) are multiconnected topologies implementing the logical layout of so-called multichannel metropolitan area networks. Broadcasting is an open issue in multichannel MANs. This paper proposes two simple distributed techniques to deliver broadcast traffic in BMSN and SN. The two techniques are compared on the basis of throughput and delay results obtained by simulation. The robustness of the proposed broadcasting schemes with respect to failures, is also considered. |
