Popis: Gastrointestinal transit, absorption, tissue retention and urinary excretion of 51 Cr from 51 CrCl 3 were investigated in control and streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic rats. Animals were held a minimum of six weeks after STZ injection before the experiment. After an overnight fast, animals were dosed orally with 10 μCi of 51 CrCl 3 and sacrificed 2 hr thereafter. Radioactive chromium was counted in selected organs, blood, urine, segmented small intestine, and digested stomach, colon, and cecum. Results indicated that the absorption of 51 Cr from 51 CrCl 3 was low in both treatment groups. The gastroinestinal transit of 51 Cr was slower in diabetic than control rats, but blood concentrations, tissue retention and urinary excretion of 51 Cr were not significantly influenced by the diabetes.
