Popis: The aim of our studies is to elucidate in molecular detail the principles underlying the tissue specific expression of eucaryotic genes. It is hoped that by understanding how a particular gene becomes activated in one (or a few), but not other tissues we may gain more insight into the complex processes that govern cellular differentiation. The alpha-amylase multigene family of mouse has proven a suitable model system to study tissue specific modulation of gene expression since members of this gene family are expressed with different efficiencies in the pancreas, parotid gland & liver.
