Popis: | Johann Ignace Felbinger installed the first lightning rod on the German territory on the Augustinian church in ´ saga ´n in 1769. A fragment of long records about lightning strokes in Wroclaw in the period of 400 years (XV - XVIII century) was shown. The records reveal that the 90 m high tower of St. Elisabeth church was struck 10 times in XVIII century. Johann Ephraim Scheibel, Rector of St. Elisabeth lyceum has built the lightning rod on the tower of St. Elisabeth church and matched properly its down-conductor diameter. This tower with the height of 130 m was one of the highest in Europe in 1482–1529. The lightning strokes to gunpowder towers in ´Swidnica in 1667 and in Wroclaw in 1749 caused catastrophic material losses. |
