Popis: | 1. 1. The cave crayfish, Orconectes pellucidus inermis , has a circanian rhythm since (a) under constant laboratory conditions the twelve animals that lived more than a year continued to show cycles of molt and reproduction and (b) the periodicity of the cycles ranged from 338 to 396 days and so the individuals drifted out of phase with each other and the calendar year. 2. 2. Field evidence suggests that some event associated with heavy run-off from surface precipitation triggers egg-laying and synchronizes the individuals' circannian rhythms in the cave. |
