Popis:	The notion that enzymes are catalytically active in organic solvents was known as early as the turn of the century. However, it was not until the mid-1980s that Klibanov and coworkers advocated the full exploitation of the potential use of enzymes in organic solvents. This is reflected in the publication profile for the period between 1967 and 1991 (Figure 5.1). It is readily evident that since 1984 there has been a continued rapid increase in the number of papers, reaching over 180 in 1991.
