Popis: The effects of anthracyclines on the structure of human erythrocytes were examined by flow cytometry and electron spin resonance spectroscopy. Erythrocytes were exposed to adriamycin, aclarubicin and daunorubicin at 37°C and at higher temperatures. We have shown that drugs at low concentrations (1 5 μg/ml) did not exhibit significant changes in the structure of erythrocyte membranes. Higher doses of drugs induced changes in the membrane fluidity at hydrophobic parts of the lipid bilayer and conformation of the membrane proteins both at 37°C and elevated temperature. These results suggest that simultaneous exposure of cells to drugs and hyperthermia did not markedly enhance the effects of all drugs on the organization of erythrocyte membranes.
