Popis:	The σ-participation of the C 2 -C 3 and C 4 -C 7 bonds in the solvolysis of methyl substituted 1-norbornyl triflates is evaluated by application of the additivity principle. It is concluded that the σ-participation of the C 2 -C 3 bond is dependent on the spatial orientation of methyl substituents.
