Popis: Equine influenza (EI) vaccination has been mandatory in the UK for most competitive pursuits for several decades, but failure to update vaccine products at the same rate as EI virus mutations has led to several outbreaks affecting both vaccinated and unvaccinated horses. This culminated in suspension of racing in the UK in February 2019. The practising arm of the veterinary profession has a responsibility to support ongoing surveillance that monitors antigenic changes in circulating EI viruses, and also to exercise informed choice of vaccine product when recommending which vaccine to administer to clients’ horses. This article outlines some of the points that vets should consider when choosing a vaccine product.
