Popis:	The article summarizes Canada’s experience in carrying out measures aimed at reforming the local government system by optimizing the administrative and territorial structure. The fundamental principles of preparation and implementation of the administrative-territorial structure reform are clarified. They consist in the use of positive and proactive leadership, transparency, openness, timely informing on changes and application of the practice of broad consultations in the activities of local self-government bodies. Ways to adapt foreign experience in organizing activities aimed at reforming the administrative-territorial structure in Ukraine are offered.
