We have set out with the objective of adding depth and breadth to the understanding of firm boundary determinants. Our aim was to add a perspective on the international boundary determinant sphere to extant research through a differentiated assessment of foreign competition dynamics as a potentially important corporate strategy determinant. Another core goal was to reunite the product-, geographic-, and vertical firm boundary dimensions in a comprehensive analysis, and to generate insights into the endogenous inter-relationships between boundary dimensions. Finally, we endeavoured to take a state-of-the-art methodological approach that ensures an appropriate dynamic, longitudinal perspective, and provides clues on the national versus international applicability of empirical results. In this context, this study contributes to the literature in a number of important ways. |
