Popis: | Packet loss due to transmission errors in the wireless channel can significantly degrade the performance of applications such as Transmission Control Protocol (TCP)-based data applications and Voice over IP (VoIP) over wireless lo- cal area networks (WLANs). It leads to a reduction in TCP throughput for data and a loss in intelligibility for VoIP. In this paper, we propose a power loading scheme based on a semi-analytic expression for Packet error rate (PER) in a block- convolutional coded Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) system with hard-decision decoding. We quantify the performance improvement in voice and data applications using adaptive power loading and investigate the effect of channel estimation errors on the performance improvement. I.
