| Popis: | Chaetostoma hexapetalum, a new species from Chapada dos Veadeiros, Goias state, in the central-western region of Brazil, is described and illustrated. This new species can be easily differentiated from its congeners by the combination of the following characters: the presence of sixmerous flowers, a four-locular ovary, fruits with a slight apical prolongation, and two glandular trichomes between the opposite leaves. Images of seeds made from scanning electron microscopy, photos of the species in the field, and a distribution map are presented. A key to the Chaetostoma species occurring in the Chapada de Veadeiros National Park is also provided. We consider Chaetostoma hexapetalum to be an endangered species. |
