Since then, approximately 2,000 cases of this disease, infantile methemoglobinemia, have been reported from North America and Europe 1 and about 7-8 per cent of the infants died.2"4 Because the disease is not required to be reported, we have no idea of its true incidence, but one investigator estimates that the reported cases represent only 10 per cent of the ones observed.3 |
