Popis: | This report provides documentation for archaeological data recovery conducted within a four-acre parcel. The parcel includes a roughly 0.73-acre area within the recorded boundary of the prehistoric Hohokam site of Pueblo Grande, AZ U:9:1(ASM). Data recovery efforts were designed to recover human remains and collect information from a sample of non-burial features in order to mitigate the impacts of proposed commercial development within the project area. Fifty-one archaeological features were recorded during Phase I testing and Phase II data recovery phases of the project. Of this total, 32 were prehistoric features including 17 inhumations, one secondary cremation, five vessel caches, a canid burial, two pit houses, two prehistoric borrow pits, one thermal pit, and three non-thermal pits. Nineteen historic aged features—all likely related to the Tovrea Stockyards—were also identified, including 16 nonthermal pits, a fenceline, a posthole and a lime covered pit containing faunal bone. A single paleontological find of a fossilized tortoise shell was also recorded. |
