Popis: | The optical properties of the transitions of Ni2+ in MgO have been measured. The temperature dependence of these quantities is important for evaluation of the efficiency of MgO:Ni as a room‐temperature tunable infrared laser. The measurements suggest that MgO:Ni is an excellent candidate for a tunable laser. A comparison of the optical properties with other materials and the use of the Struck and Fonger theory suggest that MgO:Co might also be an acceptable room‐temperature infrared laser with greater tuning range. |
