Popis: | Profound differences between primitive and civilized societies restrict the efficacy of anthropological methods when applied to the latter. Among the more important of these differences are the followng: (1) civilized societies are literate; (2) they have historie; (3) they are susceptible to comprehensive causal analysis in historical terms; (4) their cultural diversity and variety are incomparably great; (5) their relations with other societies are constant and pervasive in both time and space. Anthropological methods in general are designed to answer questions whose sociological significance is limited when the subject of inquiry is a civilized society. |
