Popis: | R and I observations of the W Ursae Majoris-type eclipsing binary system AK Her were obtained on seven nights with the facilities at the Catalina Station of the University of Arizona. The observations, 673 with the R filter and 675 with the I filter, give good definition to the light curve. An orbital solution based on the ellipsoidal model is in agreement with Bookmyer's solution of her earlier B and V observations. Several sets of B and V light curves are compared and the variations in the shape of the light curve are delineated. A subluminous region or star spot on the advancing hemisphere of the secondary component may account for the difference in the heights of the maxima of the light curve. An estimate of the temperature and projected area required for such a spot is given. |
