Popis: | Thermoset composites can be welded to thermoplastics to construct hybrid joints. Due to the high temperatures of the fusion bonding process, material response of the thermoset part change and the properties may degrade. The main focus of this paper is to investigate the mechanisms playing a role in the degradation and also to evaluate their influence on the mechanical properties of the material. Experimental measurements are performed on the samples made from Carbon fibre epoxy composites as used in the aerospace industry. The material response is measured using different techniques including TGA, DSC and DMTA. Finally, the decrease in the material strength is determined by mechanical testing. Based on the experimental evaluations, considerations for the fusion bonding of thermoset materials are provided and possible improvements are suggested for the material durability and the design of the hybrid joint to minimise the degradation. |
