Popis: | He came out of the shadows and into the room full of mourners. The flickering candlelight dancing on the tattered clothes and the dirt encrusted skin provided an eerie contrast to the almost fluorescent whiteness of the corpse in the center of the room. Moving hurriedly to the body of the departed, he eagerly sought the bread and ale placed there by the grieving family. Wolfishly consuming the bread, he continued the ritual by draining the ale in one long draught. Then sensing the hostility and the obvious revulsion of the mourners, he snatched up the pittance offered for his participation and disappeared into the night. The sin eater had completed his ritual of absolution. |
