This paper attempts to provide an introduction to Regional Industry Economic Dynamics. It does this as a concept in the first part and puts this concept into a broader economic development perspective and explains the broad outline of the theories arising from the work of Porter (1980). The paper then uses the Moorabbin Project survey and interview results to demonstrate the reality of the phenomena in South East Melbourne. The paper also identifies the missing or poorly performing elements of Regional Industry Economic Dynamics, which if addressed could accelerate the growth of companies in South East Melbourne. The paper concludes with comments on how the missing linkage might be addressed as well as some of the ideas put forward by industry which may enhance the recognition and performance of Regional Industry Economic Dynamics. |
