Popis: The aim of chemical industries is to discover and implement environment friendly methodologies towards the overall development and progress of global society. In an effort to improve sustainability, pharmaceutical companies have adopted green techniques for developing drug molecules that are beneficial for the human population without any adverse environment impacts. Solvents play a major role in many synthetic approaches in pharmaceutical industries for designing fundamental and suitable drug molecules. Hence, efforts have been made to minimize the use of conventional organic solvents and replace them by a green and sustainable solvent medium. Ionic liquids are a solvent of choice in this regard. In this chapter, we have discussed about the use of ionic liquids as a prominent reaction medium for the synthesis of pharmaceutically important compounds. The synthesis of one of the fundamental building blocks of drug molecules, i.e., 1,2,3-triazole in a green reaction medium are also described here.
