Popis: IS H. PYLORI SEROLOGY A RELIABLE SCP~ENING METHOD FOR HP-GASTRITIS IN CHILDREN? Y. Elitsur, C. Neace, R. Aflak, and W B. Triest. Dept. Pediatrics, Pediatr. GI Division, and Dept. Pathology, Marshall Univ., Huntington, WV. Recent market forces have driven health care providers towards cost awareness. Serological screening for HP infection has become the favorable method to reduce cost by sparing endoscopic procedure. Aim: To investigate whether serological test can accurately detect children with Hp-gastritis. Methods: A retrospective analysis of all pediatric patients who had Hp serology measurement prior to an endoscopic evaluation for different GI diseases, between 1994-1996, was performed. Hp serology was done by external commercial lab. (Labcorp) and histology of gastric biopsies was assessed by H&P (infammafion), and Giemsa staining (Hp organism). Results: A total of 94 children (Male/Female ratio: 54/40) with a mean age of 11.7 years were examined. Laboratory data showed: positive serology in 17(18%), gastritis in 40(42%), and Hp-gastritis in 25(27%). The correlation between Hp serology and Hp-gastritis is shown in Table. Hn-~,astritis Dos.
