Popis: The paper presents various problems considered in sociology with reference to the youth as a social and demographic group. Priority areas in the study of the plans and expectations of rural youth as a representative of the university community were identified. The aim of the study was to determine the factors of successful adaptation of rural youth to the modern academic setting. The authors used several sociological methods and techniques such as statistical data analysis, analysis of documents, secondary analysis of sociological research materials, and online survey of the population. The results of the study revealed that adaptation to the academic and urban environment is the most difficult stage for rural youth. The most common problems faced by natives of rural areas in the process of studying at the university are material, financial, and informational problems. The ability to adapt and overcome difficulties, make correct and effective decisions independently, and realize oneself in the urban space is the most important success factor for a young person who is a native of a rural area. Analysis of regulatory legal acts at the regional level allowed to conclude that the legislative framework to support students has been developed, but not sufficiently applied. The paper presents a list of practical recommendations for municipal governments and university administrators to reduce the adaptation burden during the study period and “return” young professionals to rural areas.
