Popis: Clinical signs indicating early developing pathological changes are present in about half of all long-standing female diabetic patients, and somewhat less in male diabetics. The diabetic foot is the clinical result of motor, sensory and sympathetic dysfunction developing in both types of diabetes. Preventing the deterioration of these symptoms is the most effective treatment available for diabetic feet. The diabetic foot is the main risk factor for amputation in diabetes, and successful treatment means restoring such a foot to daily function, and the prevention of amputation. These two goals can be achieved by strict, long-term medical supervision and care, with a multidisciplinary team, the main supportive pillar of which must be the orthopaedic surgeon. The other team members should be a microbiologist, orthotist, physiotherapist, nurse, and the family doctor.
