Phosphorus is one of the key elements necessary for the growth of microorganism in drinking water. It stimulates the growth and/or regrowth of microorganism and reduced biostability in drinking water. The demand for effective and inexpensive technology is to increase in response to the widespread recognition of the deleterious health effects of microorganism risk in pipe network. In this study, activated alum porcelain (AAP) was employed for the adsorption band removal of P ion from tap water. The adsorption behavior is fitted with a Freundlich isotherm. The sorption capacity of P is dependent on pH and initial concentration. The optimum pH was found to be 6.5, which is suitable for the drinkable purpose without pH adjustment. Filtration column test shows that the AAP adsorbed trace amounts phosphorus have high removal efficiency reach 70% in drinking water, 4-8m/h is a suitable filtration flow. It is feasibility for enhance biostability in drinking water by construction filter with AAP as the filter medium combined with sands and activated carbon for removal organic and inorganic nutrients. |
