Marasme et kwashiorkor chez les 6-59 mois: Infections courantes à l'URENI, Bamako

Popis: Background: Severe acute malnutrition is associated with the high risk of infection and lethality in children 6-59 months at age. The purpose of this study was to determine the infections associated with it in the 6-59 months at the district's 1 URENI. Material and methods: The study was cross-sectional with a comprehensive sample of 156 children aged 6-59 months seen at the URENI of the district I Referral Centre to Bamako in 2013. The anthropometric measurements were carried out for nutritional evaluation. The analysis of the data set was done with SPSS version 17.0 and that of anthropometric data with ENA for SMART version 2011. Multiple logistic regression was achieved with a threshold of p.0.05. The ethical aspects were respects. Results: The 6-12 months (93.10%) were most affected by the slump with OR:1.32 [IC95%:1,14-1.53], p-0.002. Liquid diarrhea with 92.50% (OR:2.29 [IC95%:2,11-2.48], p- 0.003) and skin infection (OR:0.17 [IC95%:0.07-0.44], p- 0.001) were associated with the slump. Children aged 12-59 months had more kwashiorkor (22.45%, OR:0.19 [IC95%:0.05-0.66], p-0.006). Skin infection (43.48%, OR:3.85 [IC95%:1.98-2.51]), gastroenteritis (21.30%, OR:6.22 [IC95%:0.40-2.58], p- 0.008) and liquidian diarrhea (5.66%, OR:0.22 [IC95%:0.06-0.78], p-0.011). Conclusion: The management of severe acute malnutrition with complications requires specialized units for associated infections.
