Popis: | The effect of lanthanide substitution on the structure and magnetic properties in La1.2Sr1.8Mn2O7 is investigated. Partly replacing La by Nd and Eu results in the weakening and then disappearing of long-range ferromagnetic (FM) ordering, the forming of spin canting and low temperature cluster-glass, and the field-induced magnetic transition. These effects are related to the special lattice distortion due to the introduction of smaller Nd3+ or Eu3+, which results in the weakening of interlayer interaction, as well as the influence of Nd3+ or Eu3+ moments on Mn local spins (C) 2000 Elsevier Science S.A.
