Popis: In view of the necessity to develop a non-destructive method of measuring the porosity distribution in coal briquettes (used in investigations of the phenomenon of outbursts), an attempt has been made to utilize for this purpose the measurements of pressure distribution which accompanies the stationary, unidimensional filtration of gas. It is expected that the varying porosity of the briquette will bring about modulation of its permeability, and consequently, the modulation of the pressure distribution accompanying filtration. For this reason, the relation between the parameters describing filtration of nitrogen and helium through coal briquettes and their porosity was examined. It was found that Darcy's law cannot be employed for the description of the results obtained. A successful interpretation of these results was achieved only after a phenomenological modification of Darcy's law. This enabled the development of a method of measuring the porosity distribution in coal briquettes.
