Popis: In many socio-political settings, one might see the presence of several narratives and frames about various crises, such as natural disasters, health crises, and economic collapse. These narratives are quite visible in official statements, media coverage, and public discourses. If that is the case, then, one might ask how and to what extent do those crisis narratives shape individuals’ perceptions, attitudes, and behaviors? It is interesting that although several crisis narratives and frames are quite widespread across many societies, we do not have sufficient research on the comparative impact of those narratives on individuals, especially with respect to the non-Western settings. Thus, this study focuses on four types of crises (earthquake, global warming, pandemic, and economic hardships) and analyzes the impact of religious, political, and scientific narratives and frames about each of them on individuals’ perceptions, attitudes, and behaviors concerning those crises within the Turkish context. For that purpose, the study will employ an original dataset, derived from seven pre-survey focus groups (completed in July 2022) and a nationwide survey experiment (to be completed in December 2022). The preregistered survey experiment utilizes 4X4 factorial design (four types of crises X three narratives and a control group). By assessing the impact of multiple crisis narratives and frames in a Muslim-majority context, this study contributes to the framing theory as well.
